Fourteenth of October

Yesterday we had our first PAL session (Peer Assisted Learning) it seems like it is going to be useful, not just for eating doughnuts, but the second years are going to be a good help. In particular helping us with our time management, something that has left a few of us in the dark, unsure of what we should be doing at home and what we will have planned sessions for.

In Anna's session yesterday we brought in images or text of text in it broadest form, and in our groups analyzed them a little, it was useful, but I feel fairly confident about it from covering most of these aspects in media, Barthes' theories and all.

Today we, did letterpress, researching it and watching the videos did help.
The session was only short but I felt I got to grips quick, my print worked and
I will whack a photograph of that up when it has dried. Maybe next time I will
try and experiment more with the ink rather than the type.

Also we learnt abit more about Vernacular typography, was a really useful little talk
actually cleared up the queries I had about what we had to actually do, and I need
to collect three sets of lettering, whether they are all helvetica (yeah it is easy to spot), architectural, directional, navigational or based on production etc. I would like to collect illuminated text, get my camera out with some long exposure!

Also we have another little project to do about way finding, go to a place you have never been and write, draw and record your time there. I will probably go to Bournemouth Skate park as I have been wanting to go and it might make a change to constantly drawing swirls.
